Our eclectic stock of rare and collectable Jazz continues to grow this week with a fine selection of rarities. We have the beautiful I Put a Spell On You by Nina Simone, a reissue of Mile’s Davis’ first album for Warners, Rubberband, and a highly sought after Fats Navarro album.
Below are just some of the highlights, and you can see the full catalogue over at our Jazz Collectors Store.
NINA SIMONE I Put A Spell On You (1965 UK 12-track mono LP, front laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve is VG with some notable storage wear including some ringwear on edge and ringweear on the front plus a little discoluration on the reverse. The vinyl has a few surface scuffs and some spindle wear, but remains in VG+ condition – a very respectable copy offered at an advantageous price BL7671).
MILES DAVIS Rubberband (2019 UK limited edition 11-track double vinyl LP, within a single pocket picture sleeve. Miles Davis shocked the music world in 1985 when he left Columbia Records after 30 years to join Warner Bros. Records. In October ofthat year, he began recording the album Rubberband in Los Angeles at Ameraycan Studios with producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles. The musical direction Davis was taking during the sessions marked a radical departure, with the inclusion of funkand soul grooves; with plans to feature guest vocalists Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan. Eventually, the album was shelved and Davis went on to record Tutu, leaving the Rubberband songs unheard and untouched for over 30 years. The vinyl is BRAND NEW & unplayed, and remains factory sealed from new).
FATS NAVARRO The Fabulous Fats Navarro Volume 1 (Rare 1956 US first issue 11-track mono LP on a ‘deep groove’ Blue Note label with 767 Lexington Ave. address both sides & ‘RVG’ etched into the run off area along with the all important ‘ear’ marking both sides. Comes complete with the original Reid Miles designed pasted picture sleeve with UK tax import stickers on the back. Unfortunately the sleeve has split across all three closed edges. We have left it ‘as is’ to allow forfuture restoration, as the front & back panels remain in nice condition with all print legible & no writing [the paper along the spine is no longer]. The heavyweight vinyl grades EX/EX- with a nice sheen both sides & a few minor spindle marks including the odd paper hairline not upsetting play BLP1531).
