A new series focusing on the life and activism of Afeni and Tupac Shakur has been commissioned for the FX Channel.
While no release date has been set, Outlaw: The Saga Of Afeni And Tupac Shakur is to be directed by Allen Hughes, who recently put out the limited series, The Defiant Ones, which focused on the business partnership between Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. He also worked on music videos for N.W.A and Tupac, as well as the classic hip hop films Menace II Society and Dead Presidents.
Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, passed away in 2016 and was a known activist and member of the Black Panther movement. She became an author in later life. The relationship between Tupac and his mother was well documented in the 1995 single, Dear Mama.
Tupac was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996, and to this day remains one of the most influential rap artists and songwriters of all time.
