Phil Lynott documentary film in the making

From Planet Rock.

A documentary film about the life and music of late Thin Lizzy legend Phil Lynott has been announced.

Directed by award-winning Irish filmmaker Emer Reynolds, Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away follows Lynott’s life from his birth in the West Midlands to his upbringing in working class Dublin and achieving global stardom with Thin Lizzy before his untimely death in 1986 aged just 36.

According to Screen Daily, the film is also being produced Alan Maher and John Wallace of Ireland’s Cowtown Pictures alongside Peter Worsley of London-based music documentary makers Eagle Rock Films.

As well as delving deep into the life of Phil Lynott, the film will feature a plethora of contributors including Lynott’s Thin Lizzy band mates Eric Bell, Scott Gorham and Darren Wharton, plus Metallica’s James Hetfield, Skid Row’s Brush Shiels, U2’s Adam Clayton, Suzi Quatro and Midge Ure.

Emer Reynolds said in a statement: “Having been a huge Thin Lizzy fan throughout my life, it’s an incredible honour to be bringing this celebratory and intimate portrait of lead singer and songwriter Philip Lynott to the big screen.”

A release date for Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away has yet to be confirmed.

Emer Reynolds’ acclaimed 2017 film ‘The Farthest: Voyager in Space’ won the Emmy for outstanding science and technology documentary at last year’s Emmy Awards.
