Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.
Noah Howard – Space Dimension: Intergalactic 1970 French first press 5-track LP, an incredible rarity for the freeform jazz collector, also starring Frank Wright on tenor sax, Bobby Few on piano & Art Taylor or Muhammad Ali on drums. The glossypicture sleeve reveals only the lightest spot of ring wear starting to show & the vinyl is near ‘as new’. Destination out!
Ornette Coleman – Free Jazz: Rare 1961 first issue US stereo 2-track vinyl LP on the blue & green Atlantic label, a milestone in spontaneous group improvisation using two separate quartets panned to either side of the stereo spectrum that caused a great deal of controversy at the time – could this really be jazz? A fascinating, radical document and historical companion piece to Joe Harriott’s ‘Free Form’ recorded that same year. The stellar array of musicians feature Ornette Coleman, Donald Cherry, ScottLaFaro & Billy Higgins on the left channel and Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden & Ed Blackwell on the right, laminated die-cut pasted gatefold picture sleeve with company catalogue inner. The sleeve shows just a little light wear to the bottom corner with very little other wear visible. The vinyl is Excellent to Near Mint with just a few very faint hairline scuffs and a wonderfully clean and spindle mark-free label. A wonderfull copy!
Sun Ra – Unity: Space-Age Jazz 1978 Italian 14-track double LP, recorded in New York on October 24/29, 1977, glossy gatefold picture sleeve with liner notes in English & Italian. Both the sleeve & the vinyl discs appear Near Mint. A wonderful collector’s item
