Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.
Gordon Beck – Experiments With Pops: 1968 UK 8-track Stereo vinyl LP on the deep groove red & white Majpr Minor label, featuring a very young John McLaughlin, one of the most creative jazz quartet albums ever recorded in Europe yet still widely overlooked and underappreciated at the time, front laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve displays just light wear and age discolouration with a small sticker mark on the back, the labels remain clean with just a couple of marks aroundthe spindle hole, and the vinyl remains excellent with only light signs of play. A fantastic example and the first we have ever had.
Arthur Doyle – Alabama Feeling: Ferocious No Wave Jazz 1978 US private press 6-track vinyl LP, recorded live at the Brook loft space in New York City on November 11, 1977 with Charles Stephens (trombone), Richard Williams (Bass) & Rashied Sinan & Bruce Moore (Drums). These obscenely rare first pressings were issued in the States only & in a very limited run of 1,000 copies, pasted picture sleeve.
Amalgam – Wipe Out + Mad LP: 1979 UK 11-track 4-LP box set, presented in a 12″ square box with two Impetus Records inserts, some Free Music Production brochures & a 12″ booklet with detailed band member biographies & pictures. This was the tenth & final album by the British free-jazz group founded by saxophonist Trevor Watts. Note: we are also including the ultra rare “Mad” LP by Amalgam, a Dutch-only release from ’77 [VR 20.020] which was never issued with a cover & was found inside! The box grades VG+ due to a 2″ hairline fracture to an edge of the spine & otherwise there is just one crease mark to a corner. All vinyl discs, including the “Mad” LP, are Near Mint. A fantastic find
