Released in 1983, Lucky Star was one of the tracks from Madonna’s self-titled debut LP. The single was released the same day as the albumin the UK but failed to chart, despite the fact it was issued in a striking picture sleeve with an image from the same photo session with Gary Heery.
As Madonna’s popularity would grow, many of her singles would be re released over time. What makes Lucky Star different is that the reissue had an entirely different sleeve, making the now infamous ‘Sunglasses’ sleeve one of the most sought after Madonna collectors items.
The original irish 7″ with the ‘sunglasses’ picture sleeve is incredibly rare, but the 12″ is high demand, too. The few that turn up on the open market have often suffered with age having been stored away in collections for 35 years.
