Just Landed: An incredibly rare classic record arrived for the first time

One of our buyers discovered an incredibly rare classical record in a recent collection, which we are seeing here at eil.com for the first time.

CONSTANTIN SILVESTRI conducts the PARIS CONSERVATOIRE ORCHESTRA Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto / Meditation. 1960 UK first issue STEREO vinyl LP on the silver & turquoise Columbia label, led by Leonid Kogan, considered one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century, one of five stereo recordings made for Columbia, front laminated flipback picture sleeve with original EMI inner.

The Sleeve is graded as VG+/EX-

The front laminated image is clear and clean, with just a little fading towards the very edge of the spine; aside from a little laminate lift along the bottom edge, the laminate is still fast, with almost no creasing. There is a little corner rubbing and the edges are still sharp with just one small scuff on the bottom and a small nick in the spine, leaving all the text legible. The reverse has some light age discolouration with the text all remaining clear; the previous owner’s name is discreetly written on the bottom. The flipbacks are secure and the sleeve is free from tears or splits.

The vinyl is graded as Excellent

The vinyl has been professionally cleaned on a high-end matrix machine and playtested. Play confirms a wonderful full stereo range and punchy dynamics which makes Columbia pressings of this era the best in the world. There is some light surface noise in places with no distortion. The vinyl shows just a few light hairlines with a couple of surface marks. The labels are remarkably clean and point to limited previous play.
