From Planet Rock.
To mark Halloween, Iron Maiden’s iconic mascot Eddie has been transformed into playable characters on mobile game Angry Birds Evolution.
Rovio Entertainment, creators of the Angry Birds franchise, have joined forces with Iron Maiden to create the Eddie The Bird character who comes in four different incarnations – the ‘Somewhere In Time’ cyborg Eddie, the murderous ‘Killers’ era Eddie, Egyptian pharaoh Eddie from ‘Powerslave’ and, most recently, the Mayan Eddie from ‘Book of Souls’.
Players can add Eddie to their Angry Birds Evolution team for a limited two-week period from today 16th October to Halloween and once recruited they will be able to keep him forever.
As well as the four different evolutions of Eddie, the Bird Island will get a facelift as a ‘Halloween themed heavy metal oasis with a land full of hair-raising and loving tributes to Eddie, Iron Maiden and the heavy metal universe.’
Miika Tams, VP Games and Product Lead for Angry Birds Evolution, enthuses: “Our team is filled with massive Iron Maiden fans and Eddie was both our first choice & a natural fit in Angry Birds Evolution.
“It’s about time his status as a true rock icon was celebrated and we know that fans will love seeing Eddie The Bird raise hell on Bird Island!”
Llexi Leon, Interactive Creative Director at Phantom Music Management, adds: “When you get a call from Rovio, one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world confessing that they are Maiden fans and want to celebrate Halloween with Eddie you just have to take notice.
“They have outdone themselves with this incredible tribute to Maiden and the opportunity to share the band’s music with their millions of players around the world. I really can’t wait to play him and skittle those pigs!”
As well as appearing on Angry Birds Evolution, Eddie The Bird will be migrating to Iron Maiden’s mobile role-playing game ‘Iron Maiden: Legacy Of The Beast’ at some point in 2018.
