With the impending release of a new John Carpenter anthology, Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor, and long time collaborator Atticus Ross, have unveiled a cover of the iconic theme from the 1978 masterpiece, Halloween.
Reznor admits that the movie changed his life after he saw it as a teenager. “[My friends and I] left the theater forever changed,” he said in a statement. “We were damaged and scarred, with the shit genuinely scared out of us and that theme stuck firmly in our heads. John Carpenter, it’s your fault that I turned out the way I did.”
Carpenter has given his own seal of approval to the venture, saying he is impressed, and that their take “does amazing justice to the original.”
While this new version, which you can hear below, is not included on the John Carpenter Anthology: Movie Themes 1974 – 1998, it is out on October 20, and available for pre-order.
