Former Sonic Youth frontwoman Kim Gordon has shared the first track released under her own name, Murdered Out – a collaboration with producer Justin Raisen (Santigold, Charli XCX) which features Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa on drums.
Posting the track to YouTube, Gordon revealed the lyrics were inspired by the proliferation of black matte spray on cars in Los Angeles, known as the ‘Murdered Out’ trend.
“When I moved back to LA, I noticed more and more cars painted with black matte spray, tinted windows, blackened logos, and black wheels,” she explains.
“‘Murdered Out’, as a look, is now creeping into mainstream culture as a design trend. A coffee brand. A clothing line. A nailpolish colour… the ultimate expression in digging out, getting rid of, purging the soul.”
Raisen started the song and Gordon helped finish it, with the singer calling the result “such a great surprise!” and adding: “Looking forward to our next collaboration.”
