The original draft lyrics to the Radiohead song Airbag, written by Thom Yorke on the inside cover of a copy of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience, are to go on sale.
The book also includes Yorke’s annotations and margin notes, notably alongside the Blake poems Nurse’s Song, A Cradle Song and The Divine Image.
Airbag is the opening song on Radiohead’s third album OK Computer. Released in May 1997, OK Computer went straight to number one in the UK albums chart and was number three in Rolling Stone magazine’s list, 100 Best Albums of the Nineties.
Airbag was written after Yorke and his girlfriend were involved in a car crash. It was originally titled An Airbag Saved My Life.
The book with lyrics is being sold by Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions on behalf of Oxfam and is estimated to fetch £800-£1,200.
The auction will take place on Friday March 18.
