Former Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham has sung live for the first time since he suffered vocal cord damage during emergency heart surgery.
Lindsey, who exited Fleetwood Mac in highly acrimonious circumstances in 2018, had open heart surgery in February 2019 and his wife Kristen said at that time it was “unclear” if the vocal cord damage he suffered was “permanent.”
After keeping a low profile over the past year, Lindsey surfaced to perform a four-song acoustic set on Zoom last Friday night (7th August).
The stripped back renditions of the Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Never Going Back Again’ and ‘Big Love’, and solo songs ‘Trouble’ and ‘Shut Us Down’ marked the first time Lindsey has sung in public since his operation.
Commenting on the coronavirus pandemic in the video, Lindsey said: “This (pandemic) has been like a couple of years previous in which things occurred that I did not see coming.
“One was my split from Fleetwood Mac. Another one was having a bypass operation, which I did not expect to happen. You could say that this makes it a trifecta of events that were completely off the charts.”
Lindsey had hoped to tour North America this year, but his plans were thwarted due to pandemic.
Elsewhere in the Zoom video, Lindsey confirms there’s a new self-titled solo album in the pipeline, saying: “I do have an album coming out. We’re waiting to see where this is all going. We don’t have a release date. I was meant to be out on the road now promoting it. It should be out in the spring sometime. It’s just self-titled ‘Lindsey Buckingham’. We’ll see where that goes.”
Earlier this year, Mick Fleetwood vowed that Fleetwood Mac will never reunite with Lindsey Buckingham explaining that “we’re very, very committed to (new members) Neil (Finn) and Mike (Campbell), and that passed away a time ago, when Lindsey left.”
