Talk about eclectic.
You never know what’s coming next from maverick reissue specialists Be With Records. In little over a year, everyone from Leon Ware to The Streets to Letta Mbulu to Cassie has been touched by the kaleidoscopic Be With stamp.
The London-based label is taking yet another sideways step with its next batch of reissues, set for release in early 2016. The curveball this time round is Kylie Minogue’s eponymous album from ’94. Referencing ambient, house, synth-pop and balearic, it’s a bit of guilty favourite – as Balearic Mike puts it: “Brave move. I am a MASSIVE Kylie fan – as are all right-thinking people.”
And the numbers stack up: a nice vinyl edition will set you back as much as £150 on second hand markets. Limited to just 500 copies, the reissue arrives in a gatefold, giving those iconic Rankin portraits the space they deserve.
Following that, it’s the turn of mythical Funkadelic figure Eddie Hazel – the man behind the legendary ‘Maggot Brain’ guitar solo – and his only album Game, Dames And Guitar Thangs (1977).
Fired up next is jazz vocalist Andy Bey and his spiritual ’74 cosmic jazz masterpiece Experience And Judgment. And then Be With favourite Ned Doheny gets a fresh reissue package; this time, his intoxicating debut album.
