For anyone who collects vinyl, we know that some of the most highly wanted pressings tend to be those classed as Audiophile.
Those with the best hi-fi equipment will always want the best quality sounding pressing available, be that high quality 180 gram or heavier vinyl, CD’s, Super Audio CD’s, SHM-CD’s, DVD-Audio Discs and more, from companies like DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, Nexus, Simply Vinyl or Nimbus.
AUDIOPHILE VINYL
‘True Fidelity’ vinyl is perhaps the ultimate format for the audiophile. Issues are taken from original master tapes for pure ‘as intended sound’, and production techniques such as half-speed mastering, quadraphonic sound and special formulated virgin vinyl are common in most audiophile releases.
There are many labels who issue audiophile recordings, but only a few specialize in it. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) have a variety of series including ‘Original Master Recordings’
[OMR] and ‘Ultra High-Quality Recordings’ [UHQR]. Other important audiophile labels include Nautilus, Direct-Disk Labs, Sheffield Lab and Wilson Audio.
AUDIOPHILE COMPACT DISCS
With the development of the compact disc so typically came the development of its audiophile counterpart. Again, there are specialist labels, there are varying techniques (gold discs, layered discs, high-density discs) and there are varying opinions on the listening pleasure! But we’re here to bring all those quandaries together.

JIMI HENDRIX First Rays Of The New Rising Sun (2013 Japanese exclusive limited edition 17-track Blu-Spec CD [an audio Compact Disc format using Blu-Ray technology & playable on all CD players], presented in a mini LP-style gatefold picture sleeve with two booklets & obi-strip SICP-30005).
THE BEATLES Beatles For Sale (Rare 1983 US limited edition Mobile Fidelity half-speed mastered ‘Original Master Recording’ 14-track audiophile LP pressed on 100% virgin vinyl in Japan, gatefold picture sleeve complete with inner. This copy remains factory sealed from new in the original stickered perforated poly bag and is therefore still MINT and unplayed! MFSL1-104).
THE CURE Entreat Plus (2016 UK limited edition 12-track double LP pressed on 180gram Heavyweight Vinyl, featuring the ‘remastered & remixed’ version of Entreat, originally issued with the 2010 re-release of their Disintegration album and includes the four tracks excluded from the original version. Complete with a download code voucher, both discs are UNPLAYED and housed in the gatefold picture sleeve which remains sealed in its hype-stickered shrinkwrap).
NEIL YOUNG A Letter Home (2014 US limited edition 12-track LP pressed on Heavyweight Vinyl – Neil’s thirty third studio album consists of covers of classic songs by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot & others and was recorded in a refurbished 1947 Voice-o-Graph vinyl recording booth at Jack White’s Third Man Records recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee. Complete with the lyric inner which a seam split to one edge, the back-pasted picture sleeve shows minimal shelfwear and the vinyl remains near ‘as new’ with few signs of play TMR-245).
AEROSMITH O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits (2002 UK/EU Audiophile edition 30-track double SA-CD set, picture sleeve, with 16-page booklet and housed in a printed SA-CD slipcase. This will only play on SA-CD players! Featuring many of their hits including Dream On, Sweet Emotion, Dude (Looks Like A Lady), Crazy and many more. COL5084677).
