The advent of CD’s seemed like the death knell for vinyl during the ‘90s. That was only made worse by file sharing becoming popular as the decade came to a close and edged into the early ‘00s. We now know that vinyl would have an unprecedented resurgence in later years, which has led to collectors desperately seeking out original pressings from the ‘90s. Those rare Creation records pressings that shaped alternative music as we know it today, the rare pressings of iconic grunge records that are white whales for many, and weird and wonderful electronic music are always popular with completists.
Finding original ‘90s pressings is hard for anyone, ourselves included, but it does happen, and we have great stock of some rarities over at eil.com now.
ERIC CLAPTON Unplugged (1992 UK German-pressed 13-track LP, featuring stripped back acoustic recordings including Tears In Heaven & Layla, gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve has just a little scuffing and the vinyl is in excellent condition withfew signs of play WX480).
APHEX TWIN Selected Ambient Works 85 – 92 (Original 1992 Belgium first issue 13-track Double Vinyl LP set, featuring a collection of ground-breaking early recordings crafted by acclaimed ambient/lo-fi whizz Richard D James, within a non-barcoded/catalogue numbered single-pocket black & white logo sleeve. This copy is a first issue with but has been over-stickered on the reverse with a cat number/barcode. The sleeve is graded VG with some notable edge scuffing and a small amount ofpaper loss at the top edge, the vinyl however grades Excellent with only light signs of play – please see more info for pressing details…AMBLP3902).
MY BLOODY VALENTINE Loveless (Classic original 1991 UK 11-track vinyl LP with hand-scratched matrices that read: CRELP-060-A5 DMM ASL TOWNHOUSE 3 MAX / CRELP-060-B5 DMM ASL TOWNHOUSE 3 MAX. One of the greatest examples of early nineties British guitar rock, with warm fuzzy guitar cascades over menacing sexy vocals and is also famous for ‘bankrupting’ Creation Records when Shields’ perfectionism resulted in long delays in the studio. The results were worth it!! The first pressing isstill considered the best sounding version by hardcore fans. Glossy picture sleeve with illustrated inner. The sleeve is graded VG/VG- with some noteable edge scuffing, small split at the top and some ringwear, the inner shows very little wear at all and is free from splits etc, the vinyl is a strong VG/EX with some light hairlines/scuffs visible in places but nothing that affects play. A very respectable copy offered at an advantageous price. Increasingly in demand & essential CRELP060).
