The advent of CD’s seemed like the death knell for vinyl during the ‘90s. That was only made worse by file sharing becoming popular as the decade came to a close and edged into the early ‘00s. We now know that vinyl would have an unprecedented resurgence in later years, which has led to collectors desperately seeking out original pressings from the ‘90s. Those rare Creation records pressings that shaped alternative music as we know it today, the rare pressings of iconic grunge records that are white whales for many, and weird and wonderful electronic music are always popular with completists.
Finding original ‘90s pressings is hard for anyone, ourselves included, but it does happen, and we have great stock of some rarities over at eil.com now.
MY BLOODY VALENTINE This Is Your Bloody Valentine (Scarce 1990 German Dossier label reissue of their 1985 DEBUT 7-track vinyl mini-album LP featuring a collection of their earlier gothic rock & post-punk sound, which contrasts the shoegazing sound for which they are associated, including re-recorded versions of ‘Girl On The 13th Floor’, ‘Halfwalk’, ‘Last Tango In Paradise’, ‘The Garden Of Delight’ and ‘Don’t Cramp My Style’ which were included on their original demo tape. The glossy pink, blue & white picture sleeve has minimal shelfwear and the vinyl remains in wonderful ‘barely played’ condition).
SCOTT WALKER Tilt (Rare 1995 UK limited edition 9-track vinyl LP, the twelfth studio album by the American singer-songwriter including the singles Patriot [A Single] and the title track. Complete with the lyric printed inner, the vinyl looks barely played issued in the glossy picture sleeve which is number printed on the front).
KENNY WHEELER QUINTET The Widow In The Window (Scarce 1990 German 6-track digital LP on ECM Records, also starring John Taylor [piano], John Abercrombie [guitar], Dave Holland [bass] & Peter Erskine [drums], glossy picture sleeve with album notes insert. Both the sleeve & vinyl appear Ner Mint ECM1417).
