For anyone who collects vinyl, we know that some of the most highly wanted pressings tend to be those classed as Audiophile.
Those with the best hi-fi equipment will always want the best quality sounding pressing available, be that high quality 180 gram or heavier vinyl, CD’s, Super Audio CD’s, SHM-CD’s, DVD-Audio Discs and more, from companies like DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, Nexus, Simply Vinyl or Nimbus.
AUDIOPHILE VINYL
‘True Fidelity’ vinyl is perhaps the ultimate format for the audiophile. Issues are taken from original master tapes for pure ‘as intended sound’, and production techniques such as half-speed mastering, quadraphonic sound and special formulated virgin vinyl are common in most audiophile releases.
There are many labels who issue audiophile recordings, but only a few specialize in it. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) have a variety of series including ‘Original Master Recordings’
[OMR] and ‘Ultra High-Quality Recordings’ [UHQR]. Other important audiophile labels include Nautilus, Direct-Disk Labs, Sheffield Lab and Wilson Audio.
AUDIOPHILE COMPACT DISCS
With the development of the compact disc so typically came the development of its audiophile counterpart. Again, there are specialist labels, there are varying techniques (gold discs, layered discs, high-density discs) and there are varying opinions on the listening pleasure! But we’re here to bring all those quandaries together.

Jeff Lynne did more than figuratively reach for the sky on Eldorado. Daring to be bold, and creating imaginative worlds that invite the listener to escape the mundane, the visionary composer-musician achieved a multidisciplinary fantasia and, in the process, a prog-rock landmark. Nearly 50 years later, the concept album’s brilliance can be experienced like never before in cinematic fashion. Gatefold picture sleeve individually numbered on the back, with hype sticker & factory sealed inside its perforated loose bag. Highly recommended).
ALPHAVILLE Forever Young (National Album Day 2020 UK limited edition 10-track LP pressed on 180 Gram Orange Vinyl. The debut album originally released in 1984 by the German synthpop group, featuring the 2019 Remaster, including the singles Big in Japan, Sounds Like a Melody, Forever Young and (The) Jet Set. Housed in a picture sleeve with picture/lyric inner. Although not sealed, this copy remains in near as new condition).
KENNY DORHAM Matador (2022 limited edition Impex Records all-analogue 180-gram vinyl LP mastered from the original tapes, re-introducing a classic among jazz connoisseurs. Also starring Jackie McLean, Bobby Timmons, Teddy Smith, and J.C. Moses, all of whom deliver outstanding performances. Housed inside a high quality paper stock tip-on jacket faithfully reproducing the original sleeve art. Individually numbered from an edition of just 5000 copies, with hype sticker & clear re-sealable sleeve. Recommended).
JANIS JOPLIN I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama! (2012 UK/EU ‘Music On Vinyl’ limited edition 8-track LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl, her debut solo album originally released in 1969. Housed in a picture sleeve replicating the original release. Although not sealed, this remains in a ‘near as new’ condition MOVLP465).
TOY MATINEE Toy Matinee (2022 UK/EU limited edition 9-track LP pressed on 180-gram Solid Blue Vinyl, originally released in 1990 and now re-issued in a numbered edition of just 1000 copies. Featuring the superbly talented Kevin Gilbert, Patrick Leonard, Brian MacLeod, Tim Pierce, and Guy Pratt, with background vocal contributions from Julian Lennon and production by Bill Bottrell. Picture sleeve with lyric on the reverse, gold hype sticker and clear re-sealable sleeve. Recommended).
