The Clash’s London Calling 40th Anniversary release announced

When The Clash’s third studio album London Calling was released in the winter of 1979, it was clear that the band had made an instant classic, an era-defining masterpiece that stands as one of rock’s all-time greatest albums. The album is a hugely compelling melting pot of musical styles, driven by a passion for action and a fierce desire for social justice, with lyrics which remain completely relevant.

There will be a vinyl & CD reissue.

The heavy weight vinyl edition has a special clear slip case printed with Ray Lowry’s artwork, which can be removed to reveal the Pennie Smith photo below.

Just like the vinyl version, this edition has a special clear slip case printed with Ray Lowry’s artwork, which can be removed to reveal the Pennie Smith photo below.

To help celebrate the anniversary, The Museum Of London will mark the occasion with an exhibition about the band.

The museum says that its Clash exhibition, due to open on 15 Nov, will feature draft lyrics, stage clothes, photos and films, with the aim of providing a “new insight into their recording process and the making of ‘London Calling’”.

Sony Music will also release a special edition of the album to coincide with the exhibition, which will come with a 120 page book full of hand-written lyrics, notes, photos and previously unseen material from the period when the legendary record was made.

For more details about the exhibition, please see The Museum Of London’s website.
