Vorsprung Durch Technik: Rare and collectable Krautrock vinyl in stock – Watch the Video!

Just landed at eil.com is an incredible collection of original and super collectable German vinyl from the late ‘60s through to the early ‘80s. It’s music that pushes the boundaries with a wide-range of influences; from psychedelic rock, electronics, prog, avant-garde and the down-right freaky-deaky – if you’re a fan of progressive UK music from the same period King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Vertigo Records et al, there’s much to discover here. The UK music press pejoratively dubbed it ‘krautrock’ at the time, what did they know! Listening in 2019, it’s music that was ahead of its time which still has the power to excite, enthral and be down-right scary in equal measure (sometimes all at the same time!).

Most of these records sold in tiny quantities, and many were only released in Germany, needless to say they are super collectable and not something that we see very often. You can see a small selection of the collection we currently have in stock below, and browse our full catalogue at eil.com

TECHNICAL SPACE COMPOSER’S CREW Canaxis 5 (Krautrock holy grail! Monster rare 1969 German-only limited edition private press vinyl LP, picture sleeve. Just a few months after the formation of Can in 1969, Holger Czukay made this one-off collaboration with producer/engineer Rolf Dammers. Released in a run of just 500 copies on their own Music Factory imprint, the album, [inspired by his studies under Stockhausen], incorporated radios, electronics, sound collages and proto-sampling techniques over two side-long pieces. ‘Ho-Mai-Nhi [The Boat Woman’s Song]’ splices field recordings of Vietnamese traditional song, chants, shortwave radio blasts and more into a truly unique soundscape. Make no mistake this is a seminal slice of music history that single-handedly predicts sampling, world/ethnic music fashions, ambient, electronica and more).EMBRYO Opal (Very rare 1970 German 8-track debut vinyl LP, die-cut front laminated gatefold picture sleeve. Classic prog/jazz freak out from the band led by Christian Burchard, up there with Zappa, Floyd, Tull and Bitches Brew era Miles Davis. The sleeve shows only light shelfwear, the vinyl is Excellent with just the odd faint hairline/scuff not affecting play- a fantastic copy of this Krautrock rarity! OMM56003).

CAN Limited Edition (1974 UK limited edition 13-track LP compiling 1968-74 odds & ends from the Krautrock masters, laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve has some light storage marks and minor edgewear, whilst the vinyl has just a couple of minor surfaces marks. A very respectable copy offered at an advantageous price USP103).

AMON DÜÜL Psychedelic Underground (Very rare archive quality German 1969 6-track vinyl LP on the blue Metronome label, laminated gatefold picture sleeve. The debut longplayer by the Krautrock pioneers features lengthy improvised psychedelic freak-outs, raw primal playing and a general disregard for musical convention that made them light years ahead of the curve. The sleeve shows just some very minor laminate rippling to the reverse and is otherwise superb with very little signs of shelfwear, the vinyl too is incredible and looks barely played – this is the first copy we’ve ever had of this seminal Krautrock classic and comes highly recommended ST-MLP-15332).

AMON DUUL II Yeti (1970 UK first issue 10-track double LP on the black Liberty label, not only one of the top five Krautrock records of all time but housed in one of the most striking sleeve designs (in a genre full of striking sleeve designs). Opening with the sprawling twelve minute ‘Soap Shop Rock’ medley that really knocks you for six. The textured gatefold picture sleeve shows minimal shelfwear & the vinyl remains near ‘as new’ with just a couple of light surface scuffs visible upon very close inspection. A superb copy! LSP101).

ASH RA TEMPEL Seven Up (Very rare 1973 German 2-track vinyl LP, laminated gatefold picture sleeve. Recorded while psychedelic guru Leary was in exile in Switzerland, this collaboration with the krautrock pioneers doesn’t disappoint. Two side long pieces divided into eight parts, it’s a genuinely trippy experience where moments of free-form rock merge with spacey electronics and dubbed out voices – essential. The sleeve shows just some light shelfwear and minor corner scuffing, the vinyl is graded VG/VG+ as there are some hairlines visible, however, play testing reveals nothing that greatly interferes with play – the first copy we have ever had too! KK58.001).

ASH RA TEMPEL Ash Ra Temple (Very rare 1972 transitional second pressing of the 1971 German 2-track vinyl LP which carries a six digit catalogue number on the front of the sleeve and spine but retains the five digit catalogue number of the first issue on the label, double fold-out sleeve. One of krautrocks key early releases featuring two side-long pieces, side one is an explosive freak-out with some indcredible guitar work from Manuel Gotsching and drums/percussion from Klaus Schulze, side two is a super blissful ambient piece with some wonderful, understated electronics – both essential. The delicate sleeve shows some inevitable scuffing to the edges but remains fully intact, with no rips or tears to the open panels, the vinyl has some light hairlines visible and the occasional bit of background noise in some of the quietest passages, but nothing excessive – overall, a more than acceptable copy of this very hard-to-find krautrock klassic and the first copy we’ve ever seen in over thirty years! OMM556013).
