From Planet Rock.
Motörhead’s seminal 1979 albums ‘Overkill’ and ‘Bomber’ are being reissued in deluxe formats on Friday 25th October to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
The metal legends began teasing an announcement on Tuesday (22nd July) when launched the new website Motorhead79.com and posted a video to social media featuring 1979 hit songs by The Bee Gees (‘Too Much Heaven’), ABBA (‘Voulez-Vous’) and Buggles (‘Video Killed The Radio Star’) and a blistering Motörhead performance of ‘Overkill’.
It’s now been confirmed that the ‘Motörhead ‘79’ campaign will see ‘Overkill’ and ‘Bomber’ get re-released in new deluxe editions, both as hardbound bookpacks in two CD and triple LP format.
The releases boast previously unheard concerts from the ’79 tours, interviews and a plethora of unseen photos.
As a taster for the albums, a previously unreleased live performance of ‘Bomber’ was exclusively played on Planet Rock this morning. Watch the video for it here:
For fans with deeper pockets, alongside the ‘Overkill’ and ‘Bomber’ reissues there’s an expansive ‘1979’ Box Set and Super Deluxe Box Set, which both feature a veritable smorgasbord of rarities and extras.
All of the releases have been collated with the full involvement and blessing of the estates of late Motörhead legends Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, “Fast” Eddie Clarke and Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor.
A statement reads: “By going through Motörhead’s extensive private archives, to receiving the assistance of key people who were part of their ’79 circle of friends, crew, and accomplices – as well as consulting with super fans – all parties are immensely proud to show the level of detail and commitment which has gone into all three of the ’79 releases, and which will continue with future projects.
“It was always Lemmy’s demand to give the fans the very best possible in every respect, we believe we have achieved that with these reissues.”
The brainchild of Motörhead and BMG, the ‘Motörhead ‘79’ campaign is part of extensive release programme spanning the band’s career from the 70s, ‘80’s, 90’s, and beyond.
