This copy of Nick Drake’s parting gift, Pink Moon is an extremely rare 1972 UK first press 11-track vinyl LP on the pink rim Island ‘palm tree’ label with machine stamped A1-U/B1-U matrices in the run-outs, Nick’s beautiful but chilling third & last album. Comes housed in the original matte gatefold picture sleeve with song lyrics & an amazing negative image of Nick printed inside, complete with the powder blue Island company inner. A rare chance to own an original copy of Nick’s last album in stunning condition
The sleeve is printed by the Tinsley Robor Group with a custom ‘i’ logo by the bottom edge on the reverse. The original powder blue company inner is enclosed. Condition wise, there is no writing or sticker tears & this is one of the few copies that actually sold in the shops at the time of release, bought by its one fastidious owner who kept the LP under lock & key, out of direct sunlight, for decades. There is no print fade & all text remains clearly legible, including the spine. There are some minor age spots to the matte finish evident on the front & back panels with the odd pinch mark to the spine. The edges reveal some minor scuffing to the paper as all copies are likely to show in 2019. The cover remains in Excellent condition.
Despite being over thirty five years old the vinyl is simply stunning – it looks barely ever played with very little evidence of play. The labels appear ‘as new’. The vinyl grades Near Mint with no scratches & shines like the day it was pressed. On very close inspection, you will see only the very lightest evidence of one or two plays in its life.
The matrix numbers in the ‘dead wax’ areas on both sides end -1 confirming that this was among the first batch of albums pressed. The numbers are machine stamped and are as follows:
Side One – ILPS 9184 A-1U
Side Two – ILPS 9184 B-1U
A superb collector’s copy of this highly sought after original pressing, this is what it’s all about for us!
