From the NME.
Massive Attack have announced details of a UK and Ireland arena tour to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their classic album ‘Mezzanine’. Full dates and ticket details are below.
Last month, the trip-hop icons announced a special edition re-release of their landmark 1998 album – due for release on November 16. The Bristol band’s classic record, which was their third studio album and featured such singles as ‘Teardrop’ and ‘Angel’, has been remastered for the new release and will be available in both CD and extended box set formats.
Now, they’ve revealed that they’ll be taking the record out on the road once again for ‘Mezzanine XX1’ – which they describe as “a totally new audio / visual production featuring Elizabeth Fraser and designed by Robert Del Naja with collaborators to be announced at a later date”. The show will re-imagine Mezzanine using “custom audio reconstructed from the original samples and influences.”
Robert Del Naja added: “It’s going to be a one off piece of work; our own personalised nostalgia nightmare head trip”
Massive Attack’s full upcoming 2019 UK and Ireland tour dates are below. Tickets are on sale from 10am on Friday November 2 and will be available here.
Monday January 28, 2019 – GLASGOW SSE Hydro
Tuesday January 29, 2019 – MANCHESTER Arena
Friday February 22, 2019 – LONDON O2 Arena
Sunday February 24, 2019 – DUBLIN 3Arena
Friday March 1, 2019 – BRISTOL Steel Yard
Marking the 20th anniversary of its release, the special edition box set of ‘Mezzanine’ will include a book which features exclusive images by Robert Del Naja and Nick Knight. The remastered album will be spread over two pieces of coloured vinyl, while a third disc will feature previously-unheard Mad Professor remixes from the original 1998 sessions.
The 2xCD version will also include those Mad Professor remixes, and will be presented in a reproduction of the original ‘Mezzanine’ digipack.
Both the ‘Mezzanine’ box set and CD are available to pre-order now here, with the CD set to start shipping in November and the box set in December.
Meanwhile, Massive Attack also recently announced plans re-issue the album as a can of spraypaint – loaded with the DNA-encoded audio within matt black paint.
