Foo Fighters perform special set at LA pop-up shop

From NME:

Foo Fighters surprised fans in Los Angeles yesterday (August 26) with a rarities-filled set at a pop-up shop.

The band were running a pop-up shop in the car park of Hollywood’s Palladium to promote the upcoming second edition of CalJam. The festival is due to take place in San Bernardino between October 5 and 6, and will feature Foo Fighters themselves, alongside Garbage, Iggy Pop, Tenacious D, and more.

Fans were able to take photos with the white limo featured in the music video for the song of the same name and the throne frontman Dave Grohl used on tour when he broke his leg.

Later, drummer Taylor Hawkins led cover band Chevy Metal through a set of eight covers, including The Knack’s ‘My Sharona’ and Rolling Stones‘ ‘Bitch’. The group were joined by Queen drummer Roger Taylor as they covered ‘Under Pressure’ before Grohl made his way onstage to cover The Faces‘ ‘Stay With Me’.

Afterward, Foo Fighters performed under the alias The Holy Shits – a moniker they’ve used for similar shows in the past – filling their set with album tracks and rarities. According to Billboard, Grohl told the audience they would be avoiding songs they play “when we’re doing non-parking lot shows.” However, they ended the performance with an encore of ‘Everlong’.

“How many hardcore, nerdy Foo Fighters fans are out there?” Grohl asked at one point. “That’s our target demo tonight.” The band then played songs like ‘Gimme Stitches’, from 1999’s ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose‘, and ‘Low’, from 2002’s ‘One By One‘. The performance of the latter marked the first time guitarist Pat Smear had played it in public.

You can watch footage of the concert above. Foo Fighters’ setlist was as follows:

‘White Limo’
‘Watershed’

‘Congregation’
‘Gimme Stitches’
‘Weenie Beenie’
‘Low’
‘Hey Johnny Park!’
‘Alone + Easy Target’
‘New Way Home’
‘Everlong’
