Dick’s Picks: Revisiting Pink Floyd’s first recordings from 1965

In 1965, Pink Floyd were a very different band to the sonic force they would later become, with their psychedelic, mind bending sound being very much of the time. The earliest Pink Floyd recordings actually happened around Christmas 1964, while Syd Barrett, Richard Wright, Nick Mason, and then guitarist, Rado Klose, were still called The Tea Set.

The six tracks that came out of these sessions were the only recordings to feature Klose, along with Richard Wrights former wife, Juliette Gale, who provided co-lead vocals on Walk With Me Sydney. The band recorded five original tracks, along with a cover of Slim Harpo’s swamp blues classic, I’m a King Bee.

The first official release of these tracks came in 2015 as a limited edition double 7″. It was limited to just 1000 commercially released copies, with 50 being used for promotional purposes. The tracks would later be included on the 2016 Early Years 1965-1972 box set.
