JAZZ Vinyl & CDs at eil.com this week includes Karin Krog, Miles Davis, Jack Hammer and more

Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.

Karin Krog – We Could Be Flying: Rare 1975 Norwegian first press 9-track LP – a mighty fine Euro Jazz winner with a funky edge & backing from Steve Kuhn, Steve Swallow & the brilliant Jon Christensen, silk laminated picture sleeve with the original Nordic catalogue inner. The sleeve [VG] is tape reinforced along the top edge with some small patches of tape to the back opening where there is a small thumbnail split. All text is legible including along the spine, there is no writing & just some minor scuffing. The vinyl grades VG+/EX- with light paper hairline scuffs not affecting play £125

Jack Hammer – Brave New World: Super Rare Mod/Beat 1966 UK 12-track mono LP, the one & only pressing of this album by the American, Earl Solomon Burroughs. Earl was one-time room-mate to Jimi Hendrix when they shared a flat in London & is perhaps better known for co-writing “Great Balls Of Fire” (he also penned the belting Mod/Beat single ‘Swim’). Brave New World tackles all kinds of subjects ranging from the Ku Klux Klan, religion, teenage crime (even lesbianism from a male perspective!) & was recorded with a crack team of British jazzers including Kenny Wheeler. In amongst all this are two brilliant Northern Soul style tunes, Switch Blade Operator & the wonderful Down In The Subway, later covered by Soft Cell. The front laminated picture sleeve is Excellent with some light age discolouring to the back panel, no tears or writing & just a minor edge crease. The vinyl is Excellent & super clean with just faint evidence of play £125

Miles Davis – Miles Davis & Horns: Rare 1958 US second issue of the 1956 8-track mono LP, on a black & yellow deep groove ‘fireworks’ label with Bergenfield N.J.’ address both sides & ‘RVG’ etched in the run-outs. Features historic sessions recorded on January 17th 1951 & February 19th 1953 with Sonny Rollins, Bennie Green, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Sonny Truitt & more. The pasted picture sleeve has been reinforced in the past with heavy duty tape around the closed edges, standard procedure for fifties US sleeve jackets to avoid nasty seam splits. This has been done very tastefully & in matching red, not obscuring the fantastic David Stone Martin artwork & with all text clearly legible including along the spine. The panels are nice & clean with no writing & there is a small ‘FS’ stamp to a back corner, possibly for review purposes. The vinyl has been professionally cleaned & grades Excellent with just light evidence of play. A beaut! £195
