Dick’s Picks: David Bowie’s chilling swan song, Blackstar

Released just two days after his untimely death in 2016, David Bowie’s 25th studio album, Blackstar, is a chilling bookend to his incredible career.

While it was released in standard digital and vinyl formats, there was an exclusive version released through David Bowie’s website on clear vinyl. Limited to just 5000 copies, it became an instant rarity regardless of the tragic circumstances a few days later.

The near ten minute title tragic is some of Bowie’s best work, Tis a Pity She Was a Whore is yet another evolution for the already unique artist, and as he croons, “Look up here, I’m in heaven,” on Lazarus, it feels as if Bowie knew this would be his swan song. It would go on to achieve platinum success in the UK, and be universally revered by critics.
