5 highly anticipated metal albums coming in 2018

Metal seems to still be growing in popularity year on year, with listens constantly in search of something new. Some like the classic take on metal, while others are in search of the most aggressive music possible, or perhaps whatever the latest trend of genre blending may be.

With dozens of bands threating new albums, below are just a handful of the most highly anticipated metal releases set to arrive in 2018.

Tribulation

Starting with on that we know is confirmed, Tribulation will release Down Below in January. The Swedish melodic death metal band have already unveiled two new tracks that appear to build on the direction of their critically acclaimed 2015 album, Children of the Night. Expect them to make an even bigger dent in the metal scene next year.

Watain

Another album we know is definitely on the way at the start of the year, Watain will make their long-awaited return with Trident Wolf Eclipse. Judging by the lead single, Nuclear Alchemy, it would appear they have looked to their raw and primal past and updated it with their ferocious blackened death metal sound.

Judas Priest

The original defenders of the faith are set to make a welcome return in 2018 with their nineteenth album, Firepower. The injection of some new blood in the shape of guitarist Richie Faulkner, who has helped write the new record alongside Glenn Tipton and Rob Halford, has given Judas Priest a new lease of life. Look out for this in the first quarter of the new year.

Deafheaven

After three years since the release of their powerhouse album, New Bermuda, the Californian black metal band are due to make their return. After a series of posts saying ‘2018’ on social media, and the announcement that they have wrapped up the gruelling touring cycle for New Bermuda, next year could be the year they become one of the biggest metal bands on the planet.

Behemoth

Still to be confirmed that this is happening, fans are champing at the bit for a follow up to their modern masterpiece, The Satanist. Adam ‘Nergal’ Darski has been hitting the round with his country blue band, Me and that Man, but after Behemoth spent last summer on the road with Slayer and Lamb Of God, Nergal proclaimed that magic is happening with records to a new record.
