On this day in 2007…

Ten years ago today, one of the most unimaginable events in music history occurred: Led Zeppelin performed their first full concert in 19 years.

The concert was put together to celebrate the life of Atlantic Records co-founder, Ahmet Ertegun, with proceeds from the ticket sales going to Ahmet’s own charity organisation. The tickets were available via application only, and over one million people applied to be one of the lucky 20,000 that would be in attendance.

In the absence of sadly departed drummer John Bonham, Led Zeppelin were joined by his son, Jason. They tore through a set of their biggest and most beloved hits such as Good Times Bad Times, Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, a rousing Stairway to Heaven,  and a powerful rendition of Kashmir.

The concert was released on DVD, CD, and Vinyl under the title of Celebration Day in 2012. It was the last time that Led Zeppelin performed together.

  1. “over one million people applied”?
The writer of this piece was obviously too young to have been around at the time otherwise they’d have known that there were over 20 million applications for tickets.
