10 songs from The Sundays on a Sunday

While shoegaze bands were busy destroying listeners – and no doubt their own – ear drums, and the swagger of brit pop was on the up, The Sunday’s were busy plying a different trade. More in the vein of what would become known as dream pop, Harriet Wheeler’s wistful vocals and lovelorn lyrics would sit atop a glorious bed of bright, major key progressions laced in reverb. The three albums they released in the ‘90s all spawned popular singles, particularly Here’s Where The Story Ends and Summertime, and while they didn’t achieve overly commercial success, their influence can still be heard today.

They took a hiatus in the late ’90’s when Wheeler and guitarist David Gavurin needed the time away to raise their two children, and very little has been heard of The Sunday’s since. With the current trend of ‘90s bands reforming, they are one of the few not to do it, but surely it’s time?

Below are 10 of the most essential tracks from The Sundays to help you get through a Sunday.
