Tom Petty discusses the Heartbreakers, touring, and having fun prior to death

The music world was rocked earlier this week when the one and only Tom Petty passed away. His legacy is undeniable, and has proved a constant source of inspiration to people the world over.

In what would be his final interview with Rolling Stone, Petty opened up about a number of topics. He spoke fondly of his beloved band, The Heartbreakers, stating “I humbly say that I think we’re pretty good at it, and there’s not many rock & roll bands from our era.”

The interview took place during Petty’s 40th anniversary tour this summer, which he declared “It might be the only comfortable place there is that … That, this and the studio, I am completely OK” He also mentioned his intentions to slow down touring in the coming years, but showed no signs of quitting.

“I don’t know how much more of this we’re gonna do,” Petty said. “Every show is precious, and I’m just really having fun playing.”
