JAZZ Vinyl & CDs at eil.com this week includes Allan Holdsworth, Paul Gonsalves, Lennie Niehaus, and more

Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.

Allan Holdsworth – 10 Album Set: Essential 2008 Japanese fully remastered TEN CD set, comprising the outstanding albums, I.O.U., Road Games, Metal Fatigue, Atavachron, Sand, Secrets, Wardenclyffe Tower +3, Hard Hat Area, None Too Soon & The Sixteen Men Of Tain. Each CD is housed in mini-LP style single pocket or gatefold picture sleeves complete with obi-strips & Japanese booklets, all near mint in their original reseals. Frank Zappa lauded him “one of the most interesting guys on guitar on the planet” & Robben Ford once called him “the John Coltrane of the guitar”.

Paul Gonsalves Quartet – Boom-Jackie-Boom-Chick: 2006 Japanese limited edition issue of the super limited 1964 8-track mono LP pressed on 200gram vinyl, replicating the original Vocalion label design, laminated flipback sleeve and album notes down to a tee. You can always rely on attention to detail with the Japanese and this is a beautifully remastered edition at a fraction of the cost of an original. The sound quality is glorious and worth it alone for the opening title track, which is an absolute knockout! Complete with Japanese text insert and obi-strip. Now scarce and in demand itself, both sleeve and vinyl are in near mint condition.

Lennie Niehause – Vol. 1: ‘The Quintets’: Very rare 1956 12-track ‘deep groove’ mono LP, also featuring Jack Montrose, Bob Gordon, Monty Budwig, Shelley Manne, Stu Williamson, Hampton Hawes & Red Mitchell, pasted picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just a littlelight shelfwear with minor corner creasing & the vinyl remains excellent with few signs of play – A gem!
