On This Day in 1966…

51 years ago today, The Beatles seventh studio album, Revolver, started a seven week run at the top of the UK charts. It spent total of 34 weeks in the charts, and hit number one in the U.S, too.

The album is considered to be a turning point for not just The Beatles, but for contemporary pop music. It is credited with inspiring the development of psychedelia, prog, and rock music, and laid the foundation for what the band would fully expand upon with their next album, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Only single was released from the album, Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine, but Revolver featured beloved tracks such as Taxman, For No One, and the mind-bending trip that closes the album, Tomorrow Never Knows. Whenever someone publishes a ‘Best Albums Of All-Time’ or most influential list, Revolver can usually be found propping up the top ten, as it rightfully should.
