Following a three-year legal dispute between Director John Landis and the Jackson estate, Michael Jackson’s legendary Thriller video will be given the 3D treatment.
The update version of the video, which was once voted the greatest music video of all time by Rolling Stone, has been supervised by Landis and Optimum Productions to provide the highest quality visual and audio experience.
“I am so happy to have had the chance not only to restore but enhance Michael Jackson’s Thriller,” Landis said in a press statement. “We took full advantage of the remarkable advances in technology to add new dimensions to both the visual and the audio bringing it to a whole new level. Even though Thriller was shot traditionally, I was able to use the 3-D creatively. Let me just warn you, there is a rather shocking surprise in there.”
The premiere of the 3D version of Thriller will take place at the Venice Film festival later this month, and will include the documentary that aired around the original 1983 release of the video to offset production costs; the first time it will have been available since 1990 when the Thriller VHS stopped being printed.
