Contains ‘Alternate Masters’ of Monk’s legendary first recorded session for the label in 1947 plus two takes of ‘Sixteen’ from 1952. Ultimate Jazz, rare originals….. (1957 first US issue 4-track deep groove mono vinyl LP, on a black & yellow Prestige label with ‘W. 50th St. NYC’ address & ‘RVG’ [Rudy Van Gelder] engraved in the run-outs. Although the music has subsequently been reissued in each artist’s back catalogue, this was the original “leaderless” Prestige All-Stars date, credited to just ‘Four Tenor Saxes’, & is without doubt the best sounding edition money can buy.
