The closest we’re going to get to a David Bowie international holiday will occur on 8 January 2017 on what would have been the musician’s 70th birthday.

Musicians and fans alike are poised to come together for a series of one-off concerts that will take place around the world inspired by the outpouring of tribute shows that occurred in the wake of his passing on 10 January.

Named Celebrating David Bowie, the shows will be played in aid of local charities with London’s venue set to be 02 Academy Brixton based in Bowie’s hometown.

Following his death, fans flocked to the South London location to commemorate his life, singing his most famous songs late into the evening.

Gary Oldman – who paid heartfelt tribute to his friend at this year’s BRIT Awards – will attend the London event alongside Bowie’s former band members including Mike Garson, Holly Palmer and Gerry Leonard.

Other band members from across the globe are expected to also celebrate the icon’s life alongside famous recording musicians and friends.

The concerts, which are due to be announced sporadically over the coming month, will take place in cities with a strong Bowie connection.

If you never saw Bowie live, this will undoubtedly be your chance to capture just a small amount of what it was like to see the legend in action.

Celebrating David Bowie will take place at O2 Academy Brixton Sunday 8th January 2017. Tickets go on general sale from 9am on Friday 18 November; ticketweb.co.uk
