Britpop elders just don’t seem to dig Adele.

The English powerhouse’s latest album 25 is a commercial force, but Noel Gallagher is one fan she doesn’t have in her corner. The former Oasis co-leader told Australia’s Music Feeds Adele’s oeuvre is “music for f—ing grannies.”

In cyclical fashion, it’s comments like that one that encouraged Gallagher’s latest headline grab in the first place. Gallagher was remarking on reporters’ tendencies to ask him about musicians of whom he’s already been vocally critical in the past but not the ones he admires. Regardless, he stands behind telling it like it is.

“It is interesting that no-one ever talks about my love of U2 or Coldplay, but there you go,” Gallagher said. “Lately, the one I’ve been asked about is Adele. If someone wants to know what I think about Adele, I’ll f—ing tell them. Not because I have any sort of agenda or because I’m trying to whip up any kind of hysteria. I just don’t see what all the fuss is about. I don’t like her music. I think it’s music for f—ing grannies.”

This isn’t the first time Gallagher has shared his lack of enthusiasm for Adele. In an interview with Esquire, he listed her among a slew of other pop stars he believes fame is wasted on. Kanye West can “stay,” though.

Adele also had a falling out with another influential figure in ‘90s Britpop: Damon Albarn. The Blur frontman worked with the singer on her latest outing, but their material together didn’t make the final cut. Later, Albarn described Adele’s music as “middle of the road” and called the singer “very insecure.” Adele fired back, saying she regretted hanging out with her longtime idol.

  1. Noel Gallagher is like a little child swearing out loud then looking over his shoulder to see if anyone noticed. He’s utterly irrelevant.
