Rare Bowie 8-Tracks, Reel-To-Reel Tapes & Studio Acetates In Stock Now

We picked up some less mainstream Bowie collectables recently. If you’re a fan of the 8-track, the reel to reel or the acetate, check these out:-

Set Of Twelve 8-Track Cartridges – Superb one-off collection of twelve original 8-Track Cartridges [the format that preceded the standard audio cassette and was considered a better high quality sound than its replacement], comprisingthe albums Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold The World, Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane, Pin-Ups, Young Americans & Low, the compilations Changesonebowie & Images, two different editions of David Live & a bonus ‘Best Of’ performed by various artists.

This particular set was aquired from a life long Bowie fanatic in the States who bought many of the Bowie releases across their various formats at the time of their issue. 8-Tracks were & still are favourable in the States as an attractive format.
These are been carefully stored away ever since their release & are all long since deleted. Each one remains in Excellent condition with the album artwork stickered on the front with tracklisting below, & each with the additional tracklisting sticker on the back.

Now regarded as an obsolete technology, these eight tracks retain a lovely, tactile, vintage appeal & it’s worth noting that many of these are the original UK versions, as the format was not as successful outside of the US. We very rarely see these at all on these shores!

Space Oddity – Beautiful & historic 1972 US-only 4-track stereo Magtec 7 ½ ips cine reel-to-reel for the 1969 9-track album, the one release of Space Oddity on open reel. The rights to this format were assigned to RCA in the Statesalone & cut exclusively by Magtec, North Hollywood, CA 91605. The tape remains ‘as is’ & reeled inside a black plastic reel with large hub & black on orange tracklist print. The original 5″ square cardboard picture box appears near as new, having been stored away from sun light for over forty years. A wonderful rare piece forthe Bowie archivist EPPA4813-C

DAVIE JONES & THE KINGBEES Liza Jane – Mega rare double-sided metal based ultra high-grade methyl cellulose lacquer acetate for the 1978 UK mono 7″ single, the late David Bowie’s very first recording cut when he was just seventeen & originally released on Vocalion in 1964. There is a Decca studio label one side with the printed artist, song title & duration, with annotated stereo/mono & 33/45 indicators. Also features Louie, Louie Go Home. The surface of the acetate is clean & shows merely the lightest few cosmetic scuffs as expected. BEAUTIFUL. Obtained from an ex-industry exec & pressed in extremely small numbers for sonic review, very few of these ever escape the studio & were never intended for general public consumption in this form. This incredible one-off is an amazing, timely find!
